Today is Disneyland's 61st birthday, so I thought I'd mention 6 things I love at Disneyland in California.
1. The size of Disneyland Resort
As someone who has vacationed at Walt Disney World in Florida her whole life, I was a little underwhelmed at Disneyland's size at first. But, it only makes me love it more now. I love that you can literally park hop to and from Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure (DCA) easily.. no extra bag checks, no monorails, no boats... when you walk in from bag check, you can choose Disneyland on one side and DCA on the other
2. The food!
Everyone will tell you Disneyland has amazing food.. When I go, I have a hard time choosing where I will eat because I want to eat almost everywhere.. I could do a top 6 of just food, really. But, a few of my favorite dishes and snacks are:
Fried Chicken at the Plaza Inn
Corn Dog (Available at Little Red Wagon or Corn Dog Castle with chips.. You can get it with fries at Stage Door Cafe)
Mickey Shaped Beignets & a Mint Julep at the Mint Julep Bar
Savory Bread Cones at Cozy Cone Motel
Dole Whip Float in Adventureland
3. Haunted Mansion Holiday (September-early January)
For my 8th birthday, we had my party at the movie theater. We had cake, I opened presents (I got a ton of Aladdin toys.. I was stoked), and then we got to watch the Nightmare Before Christmas. Since that moment, I loved the movie and the music and the characters... When I found out later as an adult that they changed up the Haunted Mansion every season for it, I knew I had to see it!! I finally got to see it in 2015 and my heart exploded. It was so fun and amazing and I rode it multiple times that day. If you are a fan of the movie, you must go on this ride at least once. It is too fun and I love seeing how they incorporated everything!
4. Roaming Characters
I love that you can randomly find Peter Pan picking on Captain Hook on your way to Fantasyland, Evil Queen brooding in a corner, Sleeping Beauty twirling with little girls next to her castle.. They don't even have character attendants! If you are alone or want a group photo, you may need to rely on the people behind you to help you with photos.. but it's Disney! People are happy to help. I love that they roam like this. It really keeps the magic alive and to a child (or even adult!) visiting for the first time, seeing moments like these has to be so exciting.
5. The weather
Warm in the afternoon, and a little chilly at night. That's the weather for the majority of the year in California. I love it! It rarely rains.. unlike WDW.. where rain is a daily occurrence. Me and my friends joke about how terrible our hair looks in WDW thanks to the humidity while in Disneyland we are like goddesses with humidity-free hair. It's gorgeous there! (The weather, not our hair.. well.... okay both)
6. My Disneyland friends
As I was thinking why I like to visit Disneyland.. one of the biggest reasons now is to see the friends I've made who live near there! Thanks to Instagram and Facebook Groups and our mutual love of Disney, I've met some amazing people who make my trips there even more special because I get to see them.. even if it's just to say hi and hug and maybe have a snack or go on a ride together, I love being able to see them!
Happy Birthday, Disneyland!
Disneyland is such a special place and has been making memories for 61 years now.. I love seeing the parks progress and add new things, while paying tribute to what Walt built. If you have the chance to go, you will love it!
I love wearing new shirts every time I visit the parks.. and luckily, I married a graphic designer who can help outfit me in some super cute designs!
We use Teepublic to host all of our designs because they give you an awesome variety for shirt styles and colors. I love being able to pick a t-shirt or tank top or a flowy dolman top.
Which shirts are my favorite?
As far as "unisex" sizes go, I LOVE the Heather colors that come under the Male/T-shirt style. You can get charcoal heather, navy heather, vintage green, red heather or royal heather. They are soft and a little bit looser than the other colors. All the colors are pretty comfy.. although I've gotten a cream colored shirt and the shirt itself was not very soft.. even after washing.
Here's Ross in the Male royal heather and charcoal heather tees. He's wearing a medium here.
Other styles I like
I've grown pretty fond of the Female Dolman Top. It's a soft and flowy tri-blend shirt. I'll wear a large if I want it a bit more fitted, or XL if I want it to be loose and drape-y.
This is the dolman top in an XL I've got my flannel tied around my waist, so you can't see how drape-y it is, but it's super comfy! Also.. I can get the dolman in PURPLE! Purple is my favorite color to wear.. and everyone I know makes fun of me for it. It's fine..
Another style I like is the female tank tops. I like the premium racerback and the tri-blend racerback. The tri-blends are a looser fit than the premium racerbacks. I've found the tri-blends to be longer, too.
I got this in a 2XL because I looked at the size chart and that seemed good, but it's kinda big. I am just getting the XL from now on.
I hope showing you some of my favorites has helped you for your next Teepublic purchase. I can't tell you enough how much I love their site! There are SO many great Disney inspired shirts.. so take a look!
I've been wanting to really make a full-fledged website, but never could find the time to do it! I quit my job almost a year ago to run Parkbound full-time, and the work hasn't stopped. If anything, I'm busier now than I have ever been. BUT-- I'm working on the site now and super excited to see how it goes!
Why make a new site? Well.. I'll be able to communicate with you guys better about processing times, new releases and other fun stuff! I'll also be able to accept major credit cards instead of just Paypal! I know folks have been asking for that for a while!
Please bear with me as I work out all the kinks.. this is going to be awesome! :)
